Bureau of Planning and Zoning

The Bureau of Planning and Zoning is part of the Department of Community and Economic Development.  It provides guidance and effective management for the growth, preservation, and redevelopment of the City of Allentown, in order to maintain a sustainable 21st Century community.

Upside Allentown: Safe and Healthy Neighborhoods

Upside Allentown is a comprehensive approach to community revitalization to ensure that the city’s Neighborhood Improvement Zone (NIZ), and its surrounding neighborhoods grow and thrive together. More than 100 individuals representing dozens of groups and, perhaps most importantly, neighborhood residents are working together toward a common goal of a thriving city with abundant opportunity, quality, affordable housing, safe streets, active civic participation and lots of fun. View the Upside Allentown plan, and find out more on this initiative, as well as other current activities in the Planning Bureau. You may also visit the Upside Allentown website and social media sites to learn the latest of what's happening in the volunteer-driven community revitalization effort.

Downtown on the Move

While Allentown is in the midst of a historic wave of reinvestment, stemming from its downtown core, city leaders have commissioned a planning study that offers initiatives on land use, urban design, transportation, and infrastructure. The study provides a set of recommendations to city boards, commissions, and other key stakeholders and leadership for their full consideration, to inspire and guide further implementation actions. View the planning study and it's companion studies on downtown housing, zoning, and parking.
